💡 What is this app?
ShareExpenses helps you split bills and track debts between friends. Create a group, add shared expenses and direct debts, and the app calculates exactly who owes whom — simplified to the fewest transfers possible.
📱 Local Mode (default)
The app works immediately — no sign-up needed. Your data is saved in your browser's local storage. You can create groups, add expenses, view summaries and share them via text/WhatsApp. This is enough for most use cases.
☁️ Cloud Sync (optional)
Want to access your data from multiple devices or generate shareable summary links? Enable cloud sync:
- Go to getpantry.cloud — it's free, no account needed
- Enter any email address and click "Create Pantry"
- Copy the Pantry ID you receive (a long code like
a1b2c3d4-e5f6-...)
- In this app, tap 🔑 Your Credentials and paste the Pantry ID
- Done! Your data now syncs to the cloud automatically
🔄 Moving Data to Another Device
Once cloud sync is enabled:
- On your original device: open 🔑 Your Credentials and set a Transfer Password. You'll see your Sync Code — share it via WhatsApp or copy it.
- On the new device: open the app, tap 📥 Get Your Data, paste the Sync Code + enter the password.
- All your groups and expenses will be pulled instantly. Both devices stay in sync.
🔗 Sharing a Settlement Summary
Open any group → tap 📊 Summary → tap 🔗 Link. This generates a read-only link that anyone can open to see who owes what. Share it on WhatsApp, SMS, or anywhere. The recipient doesn't need the app. (Requires cloud sync.)
🔒 Is it secure?
Your data is stored on
Pantry — a free JSON storage service. The Pantry ID acts as a key: anyone with it can access the data. The transfer password adds a SHA-256 hash check, but this is not bank-level security.
Don't store sensitive financial information. The app is ideal for splitting dinner bills, trip expenses, and casual debts.
⚠️ Good to know
• Pantry auto-deletes data after 30 days of inactivity. Open the app at least once a month to keep it alive.
• Data is always saved locally too, so even if Pantry goes down, your data is safe on your device.
• The app works fully offline — cloud is just a bonus for sharing and multi-device.
